Vigilance is the key

Be sure to keep a close watch over your systems. Often Intrusion Detection Software, such as tripwire is especially useful. You might also like to check out some security scripts, such as bastille-linuxarchive.org for RedHat 6.0 systems. They're great for bolting down fresh installs, but won't replace hard administrative yards to ensure that your system is secure.
