Linux Fundamentals
- Background and structure of the Linux operating system
- Using and configuring the bash shell
- Configuring and using the X-Windows system
- Using multiple window managers such as KDE and GNOME
- Adding users and groups
- Assigning appropriate permissions to files and directories
- Identifying and using basic Linux system commands
- Utilizing linuxconf and other graphical administration tools to perform system tasks
- Configuring both local and network printers and using Linux print commands and tools
- Installing, updating, deleting and verifying software packages using RPM and other package managers
- Exploring and implementing backup policies and procedures
- Configuring electronic mail services including sendmail
- Identifying security threats and implementing precautions to protect the system
- Upgrading the kernel to a new version
- Performing basic system and network troubleshooting
- Setting up networking and performing basic network troubleshooting
- Sharing files and directories using NFS for UNIX/Linux systems
- Using Samba to share files and directories with Windows 95/98/NT clients
- Establishing Web services using Apache
- Customizing and installing a new Linux kernel
- Addressing and solving issues related to upgrading hardware
