WordPerfect Office 2000 = Microsoft-Free Desktop

With a decent Linux box and the Corel WordPerfect Office 2000 suite you can do a good part of what you can do with Windows and Microsoft Office, and do it without a byte of Microsoft code in your system.

"Corel WordPerfect Office 2000 for Linux is shipping. My Deluxe edition has: WordPerfect 9, Quattro Pro 9, Corel Presentations 9, Paradox 9, Railroad Tycoon II, and a partridge in a pear tree. If that isn't enough, there's also a $40 rebate offer.

"WordPerfect Office 2000 installs easily enough with Corel Linux, and I also got it running on Red Hat 6.1 after a bit of initial uncertainty about getting a WordPerfect icon on the Gnome desktop. I presume you'd have similar experience with any other standard brand Linux.

"WordPerfect always was a good word processor. It doesn't have quite all the bells and whistles of Microsoft Word. Word's godfather Chris Peters was both intelligent and tireless in developing Word's capabilities, and had a good sense of which features were essential and which were not, concentrating on the essentials while stuffing in the others to win the reviewer feature wars.

"If you're a Linux enthusiast, you'll really want to look into Corel's WordPerfect Office 2000 suite."
