6 Full-Service, Vendor-Independent Linux Service Firm Provides Support, Consulting, Training and Certification

Linuxcare, Inc., a leader in providing comprehensive services for Linux, announced the opening of its Asia Pacific headquarters, Linuxcare Kabushuki Kaisha, headquartered in Tokyo, Japan.

Linuxcare KK will extend its working relationships with Japanese corporations, as well as with systems integrators, hardware manufacturers, independent software vendors (ISVs), and others, providing complete support for Linux enterprise solutions.

Linuxcare KK will continue to expand relationships to customers throughout the Asia Pacific rim. The Open Source software movement, spearheaded by the upstart Linux operating system, provides an alternative to monolithic, proprietary vendor control. To support the Linux revolution in enterprise environments, Linuxcare KK will adopt the service model established by Linuxcare, Inc.

"The establishment of Linuxcare's Asian headquarters in Tokyo has been an eagerly-anticipated, strategic move," said Ikuichi Takeyama, President, Densa Techno Tokyo. "Linuxcare provides a breakthrough, scalable, and adaptive service model that creates a dynamic environment in which Open Source-deployed solutions will thrive."

Spanning Open Source software with the industry's broadest range of enterprise customer service offerings, Linuxcare recently established a regional data center in Hong Kong, underscoring its commitment to the Pacific rim. Linuxcare maintains four strategic business units serving customers worldwide:

-- Professional Services - Linux consulting, development, integration, migration and customization

-- Technical Support - email, Web, and 24x7 telephone support for Linux

-- Linuxcare University - a full range of courseware covering leading distributions of Linux

-- Linuxcare Labs - vendor-neutral product certification and benchmarking

Linuxcare KK will localize its service offerings for Japanese clients, providing complete distribution and vendor-independent Linux service solutions for the Japanese market. The company has to-date established high-level strategic partnerships and customer relationships with companies such as Sun, Dell, IBM, NEC Software and others.

"Linuxcare is the first company in the Linux space to fully embrace customer service," said Jay Powell, Linuxcare's managing director, Asia Pacific Operations. "Linuxcare has a deep appreciation of the value that the Japanese place on service excellence. We welcome the opportunity to work closely with partners and customers to meet their individual requirements."

Prior to joining Linuxcare, Powell was technical director of Logica Aldiscon, an Irish wireless telecommunications technology firm, where he set up a Japanese office and expanded its service offerings in the Asia Pacific region. Before joining Logica Aldiscon, he spent more than five years in Kobe and Osaka working as an international relations specialist and system engineer for Mycal Systems, a Japanese computer systems integrator. Powell holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from Williams College and speaks fluent Japanese.
