OpenGL, Gaming and Linux
Poor 3D acceleration support in Linux, the prime example...Linux games. There are a couple of problems with todays Linux systems. Linux support great 2D graphics hardware, but one must be prepared to tweak up their systems if they want 3D acceleration support. This involves finding the correct drivers namely OpenGl. However OpenGl support is not always guaranteed, and many times it is inefficient and slow. Future Xfree86 versions and Linux kernels are looking to support a new technology...DRI -Direct Rendering Infrastructure, allowing OpenGl applications to use the graphics hardware directly.
