SuSE and Compaq Expand Partnership to Offer Worldwide Support for SuSE Linux Operating System

With this announcement, Compaq brings the power of one of the best worldwide service organizations to the SuSE Linux customer base.. SuSE will directly train Compaq's technical support staff in the specifics of SuSE Linux, with customer problems escalated to SuSE for resolution when required. In addition to handling the service calls requiring a highly technical understanding of SuSE Linux, SuSE will also provide 24/7 and onsite engineering coverage to Compaq for certain classes of support incidents.

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 2, 2000--SuSE, a leading international Linux company, and Compaq Computer Corp., announce an expanded partnership today to provide call center support for SuSE's distributions of the Linux OS running on Compaq's Alpha and Intel products.

With this announcement, Compaq brings the power of one of the best worldwide service organizations to the SuSE Linux customer base. Compaq's Customer Services organization serves hundreds of thousands of customers internationally and has service organizations in more than 100 countries. SuSE will directly train Compaq's technical support staff in the specifics of SuSE Linux, with customer problems escalated to SuSE for resolution when required. In addition to handling the service calls requiring a highly technical understanding of SuSE Linux, SuSE will also provide 24/7 and onsite engineering coverage to Compaq for certain classes of support incidents.

SuSE's current release for the Alpha platform, SuSE Linux 6.3 for Alpha-AXP, features over 1200 applications. SuSE Linux 6.3 for Intel includes 1500 applications. Alpha and Intel users can benefit from the unified "look and feel" of SuSE's installation and administration tools across platforms. A release on PowerPC is planned for this spring.
