Manchester Expands Solutions Offerings With New Linux Support
Manchester Equipment Co., Inc. (Nasdaq: MANC), the network integrator and corporate reseller entered its 28th year in business by announcing support for the increasingly popular Linux operating system.
"A year ago, Linux was still too fragmented and immature, too short of standardization for wide acceptance by our customers," stated Laura Fontana, Director of Technical Services. "However, companies such as Caldera Systems, Red Hat, and Corel have standardized their Linux offerings so that we are beginning to see customers adopting this low-cost, reliable and compatible solution. These companies have not only taken a standards-based approach, they also offer the quality training that enables us to provide first class support for our customers."
With the increase in acceptance and usage of Linux, Manchester will be concentrating its efforts in Linux deployment for file, print, and Web servers, as well as other back-end solutions. Manchester has been a network integrator since 1984, and these new Linux support programs compliment the company's strategic local and wide-area networking expertise.
Stephen Vames, Manager of Consulting Services added, "We are putting into place programs and resources to provide our customers with analysis, design, implementation, maintenance, and support services. We are combining our traditional and well-honed multi- and cross platform expertise in Microsoft, Novell and HP Unix with our understanding of how Linux solutions can help our customers reduce the total cost of ownership (TCO) of their computing environments."
Linux adoption has increased in the corporate marketplace from almost no penetration in 1997 to approximately thirteen percent, according to a recent report by International Data Corporation. This growth within Manchester's core market provides an additional opportunity for the Company to deliver "value-added" services to its customers. Already recognized for its excellence due to its technical, sales, and partnership certifications with such technology leaders as Microsoft, Novell, Compaq, Hewlett Packard, Cisco Systems and Intel, Manchester continues to enhance its ability to provide technology based solutions that enable its customers to be more competitive.
