Loki Entertainment Software made its leap into infamy with the release of Activision's Civilization: Call to Power for Linux. A full-featured port of the civilization-building game for Windows, Civilization: CTP for Linux would be considered the first mainstream commercial game available for Linux in a boxed set.
Only a few months after the release of Civ: CTP, Loki has done it again, with a Linux port of Bungie's Myth II: Soulblighter. Myth II is a real-time strategy game in the fantasy world. A demo version of Myth II for Linux is available at Loki's Web site.
The requirements for the Linux version of Myth II include Linux 2.x, glibc 2.0 or 2.1, XFree86 3.3.x, a network card for network play, and an OSS compatible sound card for sound. Other requirements, screenshots, and game orders can be found at Loki's Myth II site.
With the releases of Civ: CTP and Myth II for Linux, Loki is poised to become the leading provider of Linux games for the foreseeable future. "Now, as we're gaining momentum, many developers are making unsolicited calls to us," says Loki CEO Scott Draeker. "Our goal is to bring the top-selling PC/Mac games to Linux. With so many great titles coming out each year, there is more than enough."
Loki Entertainment Software expects to release Linux ports of Railrood Tycoon II and Eric's Ultimate Solitaire in the month of August. These titles will be followed by Heretic II and Heavy Gear II in the fall.
