SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 10, 1999--To meet the fast growing demand for Linux-based Web servers, VA Linux Systems and AboveNet Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq:ABOV) announced today that they are teaming to provide the first complete Linux hardware and Internet connectivity solution.

Designed for ISPs, content providers, search engines, and e-commerce sites, this comprehensive solution combines VA Linux Systems's leading Linux computer systems, support and Internet services with AboveNet's co-location services and superior network for Internet connectivity.

VA Linux also announced today that it will host the leading open source portal site on the Internet, http://www.Linux.com, at AboveNet to enable millions of Linux users to connect dynamically to the work of others in the Linux community.

Massive growth in the Internet is driving the recognition that the Linux operating system is a compelling alternative for Web servers due to its reliable performance and attractive price. VA Linux has taken the leadership position in this fast paced market, and is responsible for the Linux portal site, Linux.com, which receives upwards of one million hits per day.
