Red Hat buys C2Net Software Inc., the company which sells the secure SSL version of the Apache Webserver. The deal was reportedly worth $43 million in stock. HP also ramps up its Linux strategy, bringing Linux as one of its three "strategic" operating systems. TuesdayCorel CEO Michael Cowpland resigns from the troubled Canadian company. WednesdayMozilla, the open source version of the Netscape web browser is now licensed under both the Mozilla Public License (MPL) and the GNU Public License (GPL). This should allow tighter integration with projects such as Nautilus, the next generation GNOME file manager. It also frees up distribution problems with some derivations of Mozilla. ThursdayThe Judge ruled in favor of the MPAA in the New York DeCSS case, this forbids the Defendants or anyone acting in concert with them from posting or linking to the DeCSS code. IBM also decides to open source its AFS file system.
